Sport now a 'art'

Delhi High Court dismissed the PIL filed by former Delhi MLA Ram Gopal Singh challenging the appointment of Sachin Tendulkar as a MP in Rajya Sabha.

In the process, the Court admitted that 'sport can be said to be a form of art'.
The Court admitted the argument by Union Government that ace cricketer Sachin Tendulkar is a person having special knowledge and practical experience in art.

Stating that the word 'art' had not been defined in the Constitution, a Division Bench of Chief Justice D. Murugesan and Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw took the task of interpreting it and reached the conclusion that 'sport can be said to be a form of art'.

The Court further added, "art has no satisfactory definition. Authors have accordingly and time upon time varied the definition of art. Art as a common man would understand is something related to a qualification in a specific skill, for that matter it might be his profession/occupation. Therefore, sport is a skill and there are masters of it".
