FICCI flags off National Day celebrations
NEW DELHI, August 27, 2013. FICCI today kicked off celebrations across India for the National
Sports Day on August 29, which coincides with the birth anniversary of the hockey legend Major
Dhyan Chand. The chamber brought together some of the eminent personalities from the
government, sports fraternity and India Inc. to show the country’s commitment to promote
sports culture.
FICCI has planned similar activities simultaneously in 300 organisations in multiple cities and
places throughout India on August 29 with the support of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and
Sports, Sports Authority of India, All India Council of Physical Education, Association of Indian
Universities and Asian Football Development Project.
At today’s function at FICCI’s Federation House a message from the Ministry of Youth Affairs
and Sports was released which stated, “It is important in today’s day and age for teachers,
parents and society to support sports for holistic human development as the foundation of
intellectual fitness lies in physical fitness as said by the American President Kennedy. We need
to change the perception that that those who take part in sports or games would be no good at
studies.”
29th August is celebrated as National Sports Day in India.The President gives away sport-related awards such as the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna , Arjuna Award and Dronacharaya Award on this day at the Rashtrapati Bhawan , India to sports achievers and coaches across various sporting fields.
