Blogging Matters!!! : 'My 5ive' - Marketing the 'Myth' (Part 1)

Day 28.
It's weekend time today and the time for me to do my, 'My 5ive' thing. Today I'll be presenting before you 5 corporations or companies who have taken their name from 'Ancient Mythology'. These companies, who vary from Sports to Arts and Music and most of them indeed being, the very conspicuous brand names that we are familiar with in our day to day lives, have their names or themes gathered up from Mythology.
So, let's begin the My5 for tonight -

1.) Nike - This company is probably the most lionized shoe and other sports goods manufacturer. But, the name, Nike has been taken from the 'Greek Goddess Nike'. Look at the perfect amalgamation here, a 'Winged Goddess of Victory' who emblematizes victory, who can also run and fly at super-duper speeds, and a company which sells sporting goods..... Get the idea?

2.) Apollo - In New York City, exists the world-famous 'Apollo Theater'. But, did you know that the name for this distinguished hall has its roots in the 'Greek and Roman Mythology'. Yes, Apollo, a very noteworthy, a very prominent Olympic deity in mythology has been recognized as a 'God of poetry, arts and music'. So, the next time you visit this theater, I'm sure you'll remember more than it's name.

3.) Olympus - I have an Olympus camera, somewhat like above, but until recently I didn't know that the name of my camera has been kept after the home of the 'Olympian Gods'. Olympus was regarded as the abode of 'Twelve Olympian Gods in Greek Mythology'. Indeed, a picture-perfect combination.
4.) Poseidon - The picture above depicts a sea, a ship and a God. The God shown here is 'Poseidon', the God of the sea in Greek Mythology. He was the brother of another Greek God, 'Zeus.' Today, a national brand of seafood products named, 'Poseidon', exists in the U.S. Even a movie, by the same name was made in 2006 and it shows a ship called 'Poseidon', which capsizes after being swamped by a rogue wave.
5.) Titan - A race of powerful deities was held, during the Golden Age of Greek Mythology. These races of Gods preceding the Olympians, have had their impact on modern day football. As depicted through the picture above, there is a team in the NFL (National Football League), by the name 'Tennessee Titans'. This fusion of Ancient Race and modern day football is nothing, but amazing.

The basic idea through this list was to understand -
  • sports were a part of festivals in Ancient Greek history.
  • sports have also originated from religions.
  • to know these sports, you have to study Greek or Roman Mythology.
  • today, a lot of marketing is done from history, as they want to add meaning to their products.
So Readerland, tell me how'd you like my work? And, write what you believe are other such names around us, who share their themes or logos from history. I'll come up with 5 more names in tomorrow's blog, pertaining to the same topic. Till then goodbye and thanks for reading.
