Delhi is all set to host the Asian Cycling Championship in March 2013.The event will last for 10 days and will incorporate both road and track competitions in men, women and junior categories. It was revealed in a Press Conference organized by Cycling Federation of India.According to Parminder Singh Dhindsa- President of a faction of Cycling Federation of India-around 700 cyclists from nearly 40 countries are expected to take part in this event.
This event can be an important and crucial turn for developing the infrastructure of the game of Cycling in India. It will definitely boost up the development of a game hitherto away from the center stage although it deserves a lot of it.This event can also help in the growth of a large number of young enthusiasts who are looking to make cycling a profession. It is not fruitful yet to make it as a carrier but once it increases its Entertainment Value it can be of much attraction. This motion was also leveraged by Mr. Dhindsa who said that International Cycling Union is looking optimistic for setting up of a zonal training centre in Delhi.
Asian Cycling Championships can also help in development of Cycling Infrastructure in the country.Indira Gandhi stadium's velodrome is lying unused which can be used and benefited from this event. This should be done in various other parts of the country to make cycling an attractive sport. It will become a mass sport only if it will attract the masses.
International Cycling Union is also looking forward to provide technical support and help in training the coaches. If it happens it will be a great opportunity for Indian Cycling Coaches to get themselves acquainted with International Standards. This will help them to produce some useful talents for the country.
Cycling has all the potential to become a medal winning game in International Meets for India. Its heavy costs are becoming impediments now but they can be resolved by bringing Private Parties in its hold.
