Seminar on Sports by CII

On 30th August,2011 Confederation of Indian Industries[CII] organized a seminar titled SPORTS-THE HEALTHY WAY at The Silver Oak Hall,India Habitat Center.The seminar was very informative and the spectators witnessed some valuable comments made by the experts of various fields.
The seminar got started by the welcome remarks made by Mr. Charanjeet Banerjee- Director General of CII.The morning session of the event saw the addresses made by the eminent personalities of both sports and corporate world.The key figures included Mr. Askari H Zaidi,Mr. Kapil Dev and Mr. Abhijit Sarkar.Eminent cricketer Kapil Dev explained the indifferent attitude of the Government authorities towards the sports.He also requested the big Corporate honchos to invest some part of their resources to promote sports other than cricket.
The 2nd session of the event was moderated by renowed sports journalist- Mr. Boria Mazumdar.The other panelists were Dr. Alka Beotra-Scientific Director,National Dope Testing Lab,famous athlete and Arjuna Awardee Ms. Ashwini Nachappa,Mr. BVP Rao-Convener,Clean Sports Movement and Head of Corporate Communications,Sahara-Mr. Abhijit Sarkar.BVP Rao stressed on the need of the training of the coaches to get the better result.He cited the example of archery team's success because of the services given by a foreign coach.
The moderator of the next session was famous sports commentator of NDTV- Ms. Sonali Chander.The Panelists included Mr. Arup Das,Mr. Ajay Jadeja,Captain Amitabh,Mr. Deepak Jolly,Mr. Baichung Bhutia and Dr. Shyama Chona.The discussion during this session involved around the development of a healthy sports culture in the country.Mr. Ajay Jadeja stressed on the need of developing the sports culture right from the school level.Mr.Deepak Jolly diverted the attention towards the lack of sporting infrastructure at the grass root level which consequently becomes the impediment in the way of the young enthusiasts.Another attraction of this session was the address made by the former captain of Indian Football Team Mr. Baichung Bhutia who pointed out the lack of scientific support for sportsmen in the country.
Well known sports commentator and writer Mr. Novy kapadia was the moderator during the post lunch session.Mr. Baichung Bhutia,Mrs. Anjum Chopra,Mr. Deepak Jolly,Dr. PSM Chandran and Ms. Sindhushree Khullar were the Panelists present.Former Indian Women's team Captain Anjum Chopra underlined the importance of educating the coaches so that they impart correct training to their disciples.
Several corporate houses like jaypee Group,Sahara India,Tata Steel and Coca-Cola told about their contributions and initiatives in the development of sports in the country.
Sindhushree Khullar-Secretary,Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in her concluding remarks told about the big demand of Physical Education teachers.She also focussed on the first aim of the kids should be to attain a basic fitness level.

  1. Thankyou Anurag for your exteremely informative and helpful blog. I totally agree with the points of eminent personalities like Mr.Ajay Jadeja, Dr.Shyama Chona and Mrs.Sindhushree Khullar, that sporting infrastructure and sports culture should be developed at the grass root level.

    *from the development of sports at grass root level to building them at world wide scenario.
    *proper field and infrastructural facilities.
    *role of corporate world.
    *health,fitness and knowledge.
    every such aspect of sports was discussed and we learned a lot.
