Let me introduce you about this forum and sportsower knowledge series:
India golf Forum is a part of SportzPower Knowledge Series (SKS) which organises multilple activities focused on the needs of the growing sports industry in India especially which they have already organized ( golf , cricket football ) . I feel that on such a platform scattered knowledge and trends is shared , gathered , improved and disseminated.Or we can say these are "Event Knowledge Capture Programme". And SKS did a fantastic job by giving a boost to golf in midst of all rest sports which become a imp part of multi-sporting event and have full opportunity to flourish.
At 9:30 we registered ourselves as an official delegate of the forum held at India Habitat Centre. And do u know who was the Guest of honour. He was none other than the Director General Of Sports Authority of India(SAI) , Mr.Desh Deepak Verma. He along with Thomas Abraham(Director of SportzPower) , H.S.Kingra (Sec. General Of DGS) , Prakash Bhandari (President of DGS) lighted the diya and initiated the forum. The next event was presentation of Golf Excellence Honours. The honour List is as follows:
1. Prakash Bhandari (President of DGS)
2.Atit Kaur ( golf equipment manufacturer)
3.Romit Bose ( finest golf coach)
4.V.Krishnaswamy ( Golf Commentrator and writer)
After having a tea break , the first session began."The playing field: access to Infrastructure".
Mr.H.S. Kingra was the moderator.
The first pannelist was Mr. rajiv talwar (Albatross junior 2 , Representator) he said that " UK has 2500 golf courses being a small tiny country . Why can't we have oneof the largest countries in the world? He added " Gram panchayat land or cattle grazing land can be used to develop courses . Their land must be theirs only. It must not be sold but granted for permissible use. To scarve out 150 acres of land in metros is next to impossible" and also focussed on junior membership at college level to play golf.
Second pannelist Mr.Madhukar Chaturvedi set a great example of golf development in India by establishing Rambagh Golf Academy in Jaipur beating out all kinds of financial , water and bureacratic problems in India. He is going to work on Public-Private Partnership(PPP)
Third pannelist was the representator of Railway Sports promotion Board , Mrs. Jhanja. As the railway is a extremely strong monopoly in india having lot og land , power , mnpower , facilities and infrastructure , she turned out to be of maximum benefit to golf development in India.
The next pannelist was a young , innovative and very determined man. He introduced the concept of "Pitch & Putt Golf Courses." ( a nursery of Golf with 9 or 18 hole built on a relatively small piece of lnd of just about 35 acres. In words of Mr.Rakesh Purohit " If golf needs to be transferred to masses , take baby-steps and nourish it with Pitch & Putt Courses and get it certified (as we did our 9 courses of sme kind at International standards) withot any affiliation , license and other charges as we are NPO and working very hard for golf in India."
The Final pannelist was Brig. Virendra kumar . His discussion revovled around DDA in Golf , public golg courses like Qutub on pay and play mode at very nominal rates of only 120INR with exciting discounts so that golf becomes accesssible and affordable to masses.
But V.Krishnaswamy in the question answer session very well suggested as well as commented on building of more amd more infrastructure. He said when we already have lots of infra built for CWG2010 and other lots of stadiums and parks which all are locked and are underutilized , then why we are debating and planning here for new infrastructure!!!"
This was the end of the first morning session.

OMG,YOU mentioned my name above, i'm so lucky.LOL.Good part, made my job easy. Brother,in IGF, Mr. Talwar had an idea to use cattle lands or farm lands and turn them into Golf Courses. Well, if you read the papers of past month, there was huge row of farmer's land being taken by Real Estate Developers in Noida and G.Noida and some of these developers are making golf fields on farm lands. I object to it, what's your take?
ReplyDeletei think it is not objectionable until it is at the cost of these farmers. developers must not buy these lands from them rather they must ask for grant with proper amount of remuneration or compensation, and utilise these lands without their ownership.
ReplyDeleteBrother, the first objection was not raised by me.It were the farmers themselves who objected as their lands were taken forcibly and secondly we should remember that India is an Agricultral Economy, these corporates are taking the green land which can and is used to grow food for the millions and turning it into Golf Couse. Instead courses like DGF should be opened at infertile land. As for the compensation amount being given to the farmers, look back at the cases of land encroachments, hardly 10% people have got that.
