Blogging Matters!!! : Golf - The Elitist Image Deficit

Day 19.

Yes, a fine class we had today and a fine fettle discussion ensued on varying topics, most prominent being Golf. A burning question emerged in my mind and I thought of writing it down for you readers.
I am talking about the "Elitist Image Deficit" of the sport of golf.
Now most of you may be aware of Golf but still, I'll just delineate it for a better understanding -
Golf - an outdoor game in which the players use special clubs (golf clubs) to try and hit a ball with as few strokes as possible into each of 9 or 18 holes. (Webster's Dictionary).
Is golf meant for elites ? Does this image of golf, hurt its popularity and acceptance among the common people? Will this deficit truncate? Well, let's find out the answers -
Golf for Elites : -

  • Golf today and even in the past has always been marked as a sport of 'social status'.

  • It is extremely arduous to say that golf is a controlled sport or dynamic sport. Many people call it the sport for 'lazy people'.

  • Today golf is seen as the game of Elite and top-notch businessmen. It is also called a Managerial sport.

  • Even the golf-equipment has evolved in its standard operating procedure as well as sophistication.

  • A complete market has developed from clubs to golf balls, golf carts, shoes, tees, etc.
Golf for Managers (Managerial Sport) : -

  • Scads of American schools, today have totted up the game of golf in their management syllabus.

  • There is a stereotype that, 'rich business people love golf'. I reckon that today, golf has become a medium to achieve other gains. Hence, the concept of Corporate Golf has developed.

  • These days business is also done on a golf course. A lot of companies make use of golf to 'Entertain' or get customers, or to erect their brand.

  • These corporate golf events are assisting the workers of a company in ensconcing novel corporate coherences.

  • But, at the same time these managerial/corporate events are very up-market.
The switching scenario : -

  • As we are cognizant, that today, golf is becoming an expeditiously growing sport in India, it is also swelling in terms of reward money, and the international winners from India and abroad.

  • Recently, both Asian Tour, as well as European Tour revealed their partnership in major Indian golf events.

  • People are realising that, a golden chance has come up in the form of Olympics 2016, in which golf has been totted up, which in turn can help in its popularity amongst the common men.

  • There is also a parley going on, which if successful can help the private sector join hands with the public sector to show live golf tournaments.
Conclusion : -

  • To conclude things, I would like to asseverate that I was just presenting the facts which have stereotyped the sport of golf. My idea was to bring forth the Managerial/Elite side of the game. And, I know very well, that my points can be argued as I know golf is not really a game just for the elites.

  • I mean people can pay about $80 on 18 holes for their 'entertainment'. Even the local golf courses have minimal fees today on coaching. So, golf is for anyone who takes delight in sport.

  • Also, today with the steadily emerging golf courses, the game is flexibly available and affordable to different social classes with different revenue levels.
