With so much hype building up for the upcoming Formula One (F1) Grand Prix on 30th October, 2011, I cogitated writing about the Entertainment Value colligated with this F1 Grand Prix.
I reckon, a few years ago there was an article in a newspaper where the F1 chiefs were exhorted to turn their attention away from politics and disputes over rule amendments and start giving more effort towards the Entertainment Value of the races. Before i dwell further into this topic let me briefly explain the term "Entertainment Value".
- Entertainment - Consists of any activity that provides a diversion or permit's people to amuse/enjoy themselves in their leisure time.(Dictionary.com)
- Value - Is how much something is worth in money or other goods for which it can be exchanged. (Oxford Dictionary)
- Entertainment Value - Is part of a show or a programme which has no specific objective but to entertain or captivate the audience's attention. For eg- Joking about someone will not give me monetary value but it can entertain the audience and myself.
Formula One indicates that it is intended to be the most advanced and most competitive of the FIA'S racing formula. There is no doubt that F1 races are big budget affair and Formula One is profitable for most parties involved. Entertainment Value can be defined by quantitative measures which depend upon financial numbers, percentages and dollars. So even the cost of building a circuit like Buddh International Circuit In Greater Noida is up to hundreds of millions of dollars which has a seating capacity of about 100,000 people. The racing teams also get a big chunk of cash from the sale of broadcasting rights and the logo of sponsor's which they exhibit on their cars.
But the ever expensive ticket costs of these races takes the shine off the track. It has been seen that despite claims of sell - out races empty seats are seen in stands. So, the organisers of F1 Grand Prix in India need to assure that empty spaces are not dotted around huge stands because Entertainment Value of F1 is proportional to the mass participation.
That's all for now Readerland folks. Read this blog, understand it and do give your valuable comments.
