The Qatar national football team is the national team of Qatar and is controlled by the Qatar Football Association. They have never qualified for a FIFA World Cup but are "hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup".

I think there was some kind of leaked e-mail controversy about FIFA Gen. Secretary, which pointed towards Qatar buying the rights to hold W.C. 2022. ( The actual procedure involves fair bidding).
ReplyDeleteSecondly, like you mentioned Qatar owning Man.U. and hosting finals, etc, etc,. Well, the Indians are also in this race as Pune based corporates - Venky's (Chicken) already own a EPL Team (Blackburn Rovers), even though India is not even in the top 150 soccer nations. So, yeah, the big buck speaks.
